High school senior Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin) suspects that his new neighbor Jerry Dandrige (Colin Farrell) is a vampire, after several disappearances in the area, and decides to investigate. After witnessing Jerry attacking a young woman, Charley goes to Las Vegas to ask magician and self-proclaimed 'vampire expert' Peter Vincent (David Tennant) for advice on how to kill Jerry, but Peter has him thrown out. Jerry, angered by Charley's investigations, launches a violent attack on Charley, his mother Jane (Toni Collette) and his girlfriend Amy (Imogen Poots), which culminates in a showdown at Peter's Las Vegas penthouse and Jerry kidnapping Amy.
